Baobab Foundation - Digging Deeper: Insights on tailored funding to organisations led by Black people and communities experiencing racial justice in 2020

In this session, Baobab will present the findings and recommendations of the 'Digging Deeper' report in more detail.

Over the last year, we have seen an unprecedented surge in funding to organisations led by Black people and communities subjected to racial injustice in the UK.

But many groups and organisations are at risk if long-term and scaled flexible investment isn’t achieved. A new report commissioned by The Baobab Foundation, ‘Digging Deeper: Insights on tailored funding to organisations led by Black people and communities experiencing racial justice in 2020’ revealed that while we’ve seen a huge surge in focus on funding related to the crisis response and recovery around the covid-19 pandemic, the racial inequalities that the pandemic exposed weren’t given the attention they deserved.

People and communities impacted by racial injustice continue to have to navigate systems which they believe do not serve them. The report critically places the burden of responsibility on funding organisations to address these issues and calls on funders to move away from expecting people and communities impacted by racial injustice to adapt to existing systems which reproduce trauma and harm, specifically ensuring funders are explicit about how they address racial injustice across their funding strategies. In this session, Baobab will present the findings and recommendation of the report in more detail followed by a Q&A with attendees.
