The future of work

We know that people working for funding and charitable organisations have great commitment and passion for the work they do. But that commitment can also lead to pressures on people’s wellbeing and in some cases result in burnout (a Pro Bono Economics survey from 2023 found that three in ten charities have seen an increase in staff burnout or exhaustion related to their work).

So how can we create a culture that encourages wellbeing and personal growth, but still gives us the time to get the job done as effectively as possible?

Both London Funders and Barking & Dagenham Giving have been trialling a reduced working week in the last year (without loss of pay). In this session, we’ll share how both organisations approached the trial, the different processes we put in place to create better work-life balance and what the results have been. London Funders have also spent the last year thinking about how we practically put inclusion and equity at the heart of our staff and recruitment policies. We’ll be sharing the learning from this and how it’s helped us create a stronger, healthier and more productive team.

We will also be joined by the Living Wage Foundation to have a broader discussion around the future work, including how funders can adopt policies that give workers security and stability.

The Festival is open to all members of London Funders. Unless otherwise specified, we are not able to accept bookings from non-members. If you’re a funder and interested in becoming a London Funders member, please find out more here.
