Partnering for investment in individuals: collaborative approaches for empowering future

Explore the landscape of funders engaging people and organisations in co-designing and co-delivering funding, to amplify their impact, foster innovation and promote equity.

Some funders set up steering groups to co-design their funding programme and make decisions as part of a participatory grantmaking model. Other funders partner with consultants to get advice on the aim and key characteristics of their funding. Some delegate the grants’ distribution to organisations with relevant structures and processes.

This session is based on a scoping study on funding to individuals that the Co-op Foundation conducted as part of establishing the Young Gamechangers Fund. The Fund is match-funded by the Co-op Foundation and the #iwill Fund, delivered by Restless Development and Global Fund for Children, and gives funding directly to young people or organisations a young person has founded or is a member of.

The session will bring together funders who will share their experience and lessons learned from designing and distributing funding to individuals and explain why and how they developed partnerships to amplify their impact, foster innovation, and promote equity.

Key topics for discussion include strategies for initiating and sustaining partnerships, navigating power dynamics and conflicts of interest, as well as leveraging resources, networks and expertise to ensure greater reach and effectiveness.

Attendees will be inspired and gain actionable insights for working with others to give funding to individuals aligned with open, trusting, and flexible funding principles.

The Festival is open to all members of London Funders. Unless otherwise specified, we are not able to accept bookings from non-members. If you’re a funder and interested in becoming a London Funders member, please find out more here.
