The rise of social prescribing: how can we better connect civil society with NHS and local authority funding?

What opportunities does social prescribing present for more joined-up statutory investment in communities?

Social prescribing is transforming how the health and care system works with people to address the wider factors affecting their health and wellbeing. In 2023, social enterprise Soda worked with all seven boroughs within the North East London ICS to co-produce and deliver a series of pilot funding initiatives known as Community Chests for Social Prescribing. These grant funds are aimed at investing in local social prescribing activity for underserved population groups, and use participatory grant-making to grow the potential for collaborative, place-based action on local health inequalities.

In this session – hosted by Soda – funders will get a better understanding of:

  • The opportunities that social prescribing presents for more joined-up statutory and civil society investment in communities.
  • The opportunity for involving communities in this process through participatory grant making approaches.
  • What shared investment funding pots might look like and how they will be administered and governed.
