Accepting risk in funding practice

As the organisations and communities that funders support grapple with prolonged uncertainty and instability, what does it mean – from application stage through to reporting – to take more risks?

Institute for Voluntary Action Research's (IVAR) research on flexible funding has found that ‘too much caution can narrow the range of people and organisations funded and what that funding can achieve’, and has encouraged funders to consider if they ‘are taking enough risk rather than too much’.

Ben Cairns, Director of IVAR, will share insights from an as-yet-unpublished evidence review on approaches to risk, as well as key questions and choices to help inform a more balanced and proportionate approach. You’ll also hear from a funder on how they think about risk.

The Festival is open to all members of London Funders. Unless otherwise specified, we are not able to accept bookings from non-members. If you’re a funder and interested in becoming a London Funders member, please find out more here.
