Balancing trust, evidence and equity: how should funders monitor, evaluate and learn from their grants?

As the sector seeks to be more trusting in its grant-making practices, many funders are wrestling with how they can effectively evaluate and learn from their grants, while avoiding over-burdening their funded partners.

This raises questions like, what does proportionate look like in practice? And how do we ensure we’ve got enough evidence to inform decision-making?

There are also growing questions around the role of evidence in interrogating the equity of current funding practices, and righting historic wrongs. Beyond understanding who is receiving or benefitting from grants, how else should we think about equity in relation to monitoring, evaluation and learning practices?

We think these three elements—trust, evidence and equity—are all important and in this interactive session, we will explore what balancing these looks like for different kinds of funders. This is something we’ve been working on at NPC and, to kick off, we’d like to share our thinking to date. There will also be time for attendees to share their own practices and learning with one another.

The Festival is open to all members of London Funders. Unless otherwise specified, we are not able to accept bookings from non-members. If you’re a funder and interested in becoming a London Funders member, please find out more here.
