Creating a stronger relationship: an honest space for funders and race equality organisations

As funder-led networks who share the commitment to drive action towards a more just and equitable funding system, Funders for Race Equality Alliance and London Funders are hosting a joint session for race equality organisations and funders.

This event aims to strengthen the relationship between the race equality and funding sectors and identify the key ways we can collectively build trust and the sustainability of the race equality sector.

Together, we will:

  • Share behaviours and funding approaches that have supported race equality organisations to do their work in a safe way.
  • Identify key components that are needed to create an equitable partnership and assess how we can adopt them collectively.
  • Address barriers to commitments to provide more accessible and sustainable funding.

This session will take place during London Funders’ annual Festival of Learning, and we have space for 25 funders and 25 Black and Minoritised-led organisations to enter a critical space for honest conversations. This is a participatory event so help us set the agenda by suggesting questions for discussion around four key areas:

Reflection (example: What gets in the way of meeting our commitments and what has worked?).

Context (example: How do we navigate and respond to external events?).

Action (example: Where do we go from here?).

Accountability (example: What should accountability look like?).

Who is eligible to attend:

Funders:

  • This session is open to funders who have an active commitment to race equality and are members of London Funders and/or Funders for Race Equality Alliance.
  • Attendees should be senior staff members with access to decision-making (ie Director, Trustee, Chief Executive).
  • Funders with the backing of their organisation who can explore ways to apply the lessons learned.

Race equality organisations:

  • Attendees will be senior staff members with access to decision-making (ie Director, Trustee, Chief Executive).

What makes this event different from others?

  • This platform will welcome both sectors on an equal platform.
  • This is a participatory and interactive space where both sectors will bring their experience, expertise and lived experience (optional) to the discussion.
  • This event will focus on strengthening relationships and identifying where we can build on previous learnings to take action for long-term support of the race equality sector.
